Applications being accepted for Windsor Optimist Club Oratorical Contest

The Optimist Club of Windsor is encouraging Windsor students to speak their minds about the topic: “How My Passions Impact the World,” as part of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest for 2013-14.

Students are asked to prepare and present a four- to five-minute speech at 6 p.m. March 6 at the Windsor Poudre Valley REA Building.

The club will judge the local students’ speeches based on content and presentation to determine the top winners.

Winners will receive awards and the winning speeches will be sent to the zone level, and possibly the district level for the opportunity to win college scholarships.

Students under the age of 19 as of Dec. 31, 2013, who have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent, are eligible to compete for a $2,500 college scholarship.

All contestants will receive a gift plus prizes for the first two places in each age group. First place in each category will be $50 and second place in each category will be $25.

The overall winner for all boys and all girls will advance to the northern Colorado zone competition. The winners of zone compete in May at the Colorado Wyoming District.

The application deadline is Feb. 21 and is limited to the first 20 contestants who apply. If more than 20 applications are received, priority will be given to the earliest dates they were received and secondly to the older contestants.

Applications are available at schools from designated teacher contacts, from select Optimist Club members or online at http://www.optimist.org/Form/Oratorical_RULES_PAD-E_13-14.pdf.

Return applications to school teacher or mail to:
