Jeff Randol’s new business in Windsor is booming, and he’s only been in town for six weeks.
Randol, 35, is one of the owners of Consumer Education Outreach, a call center at 1049 Main St. that employs 24 people in a growing business. Its parent company is Epath Media from California.
“We mostly do inbound calls. We do a little bit of outbound, but it’s more like a follow-up phone call. We don’t do any telemarketing or any of that craziness here. We don’t do any cold-calling whatsoever,” Randol said. “What we do is we pre-qualify customers for the actual sales organization. For example, one of the campaigns that has been our bread and butter is mortgage refinance. We’re calling them to make sure it wasn’t a 12-year-old kid screwing around the Internet, and confirming information that they filled out and making sure we got everything right. If they’re really looking to get a quote, we’ll send them on to one of our major lenders and let them see what they can work up for them. The customer is under zero obligation at this point in the game.”
Randol, a 1997 Greeley Central graduate who grew up in Greeley, said 20 to 30 percent of his business is from mortgage refinancing.
“We do a lot of stuff in green energy, primarily solar,” he said. “We probably spend 50 to 60 percent of our day qualifying customers primarily on the West Coast for solar installation of their properties. These are people who have called us on their own accords from a TV or radio ad. In states like California and Arizona, there are significant subsidies and tax rebates at the state level. We’re qualifying them, and making sure it’s a fit. If a guy has a $50 electric bill, he’s not a very good candidate for solar. We’ll make sure it’s a good fit for them to take a look at it. We’ll set an appointment for an actual installer in their local area to come out, show them what the systems look like and the tax rebates they do qualify for. Once we’ve made that call and confirm that there is an interest there, we kind have finished our communications with the customer at that point.”
Randol said his company makes income based on producing a good lead for the large companies they work with.
“Whether they actually convert that customer into refinancing with them or not, we’re compensated on a production basis,” he said. “Our employees are paid exceptionally well. We do pay a base salary ($15,000) plus they make money on their commission. Our average rep here makes close to 70 grand. It’s a very good-paying call center, but someone who is just looking for a $10 an hour job and they show up to work and leave at 5 o’clock, this is not the place for them to work. If they’re ethical and dedicated and want to really get somewhere in life, they can do substantially well. Our top reps here consistently make $3,500 every two weeks.”
Randol said his company needs to get to 32 people as soon as possible, but he prides himself on finding quality employees. He said there is enough business to employ 100 people.
“Generally, what I found is people that have some inside or outside sales experience usually hit the ground running a little faster,” he said. “My top rep was a Walmart greeter and had zero sales experience, so go figure. They kind of come from all walks of life. I think the biggest thing is internal drive. We can teach them the skills and reading the script and using the computer, but I can’t teach internal drive.”
Randol said the business is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday.
“We like to work hard and play harder,” Randol said.
Randol was the former director for two years at Pro Media, a call center in Greeley that does the same business as the Windsor call center. Randol said 19 employees from Pro Media left that company and moved to Windsor with him.
Consumer Education Outreach opened its doors in Windsor on Dec. 3. Randol said he’s looking into offering a benefits package for his employees in the near future. There is profit sharing in the company, he said. Randol said he chose to set up shop in Windsor because of its central location to Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley. Randol said job applicants should stop by the business at 1049 Main St. and provide a resume.
Jeromy Millette, who worked with Randol at Pro Media before coming to Windsor, said Windsor is a fantastic place.
“It’s a beautiful town. It’s wonderful to be in a neighborhood that is nice,” Millette said. “We’re starting off strong with huge potential ahead of us. I like the diverse programs that we do, and I enjoy talking to people on the phone. The thing I like most about the company is we all have known each other a little while. Jeff and the other owners have made this a family oriented business. We work to live, not live to work. We work as hard as we can while we’re here, go home and leave this place behind. It’s the advancement and opportunity that’s coming along with our strong growth that I’m the most excited about. Opportunity and growth in our business is huge right now.”
