Re-4 School District conducting free developmental screenings for children under 5

The Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District will conduct two free developmental screenings for children 1 month to 5 years old who are not yet attending kindergarten.

According to a news release from the school district, the purpose of the screening is to identify children who may be in need of special education services and/or to provide information regarding early childhood development. A screening is required if a parent/guardian is interested in having their child participate in the Colorado Preschool Program. For more information regarding the Colorado Preschool Program, log onto the preschool website at www.weldre4.k12.co.us.

The screenings are two-part and include vision/hearing testing and a developmental screening. The first set of screenings are being held in January. The vision/hearing was held Jan. 13. The developmental screening will be held Jan. 27.

The second set of screenings will be held in February and March with vision/hearing Feb. 10, and developmental screenings March 3.

A vision/hearing screening is required prior to the developmental screening. Parents/guardians interested in scheduling an appointment, or for further information, may contact Carla Jacobsen at (970) 686-8017.

These screenings are not mandatory to register for tuition preschool and do not enroll a child in the tuition preschool program.
