A family within a family: Meet the new Windsor police officers
June 20, 2017
Brenda Mugica, Jonathan Bohl and Cole Salinas all attended police academy training together last fall and are now excited to start becoming part of the Windsor community as police officers.
The three said they already are feeling at home with the Windsor Police Department and are glad to have each other for support in addition to their new colleagues.
Lt. Craig Dodd of the Windsor Police Department said the training for new officers is a long process. The hiring process was started earlier in the year, after the town board approved the hiring of three new officers as part of the 2017 budget.
The officers' first day in Windsor was June 12, and Dodd said they will continue to train until September. They will be accompanied by another uniformed officer during their 14-week training.
“We want to carry on a tradition that we’ve had for many years,” Lt. Craig DoddWindsor Police Department
"They'll have an officer in uniform that will intercede if something is going on if they need to take over a situation, so there isn't a public safety issue," Dodd said.
Adding to the department, he said, will likely need to continue as the community continues to grow.
Dodd said the department is excited for the new recruits' passion and motivation, and said they all are excited to be part of a community policing-centered department.
"We want to carry on a tradition that we've had for many years," he said. "And that is a great supportive relationship with our citizens and a realization that in order to be effective as police officers we have to have trust with our community and with our citizens to be effective in solving crime and preventing issues."
If the new officers have a message for the community, it's this: "If you see us on the streets, don't hesitate to say hi."
