Teresa Perrego, owner of Allure Hair Designs, finishes a haircut and color Wednesday for her client Raggin Compton.

After closing down her studio in Loveland last August to spend more time with her family, hair stylist and colorist Teresa Perrego has opened Allure Hair Designs inside Studio 601 Salon & Boutique, 601 Main St.

Perrego will see clients Wednesday through Saturday in Windsor and will continue her work as a professional Redken artist on the remaining days of the week.

When meeting with her clients, Perrego said she will sit down for a free consultation before the appointment to talk about what the client is looking for and the different options they have. Once she has a good idea of what she doing, she gets to work.

As a Redken artist, Perrego teaches hair coloring techniques to stylists all around the state and even travels outside the state to teach at hair shows. She said her styling and teaching goes well together because Redken asks that their instructors continue to work behind the chair.

“As soon as I saw the room, I thought, ‘This is it. This is what I want to do

— have my own boutique.’

She said the new opportunity worked well for her because she could still work behind the chair to meet Redken's requirements, but wouldn't be overwhelmed with the workload.

"It's busy in this area," Perrego said. "There aren't a lot of (Redken artists) here."

Perrego is certified as Redken certified haircolorist & master specialist, as well as a Great Lengths hair extension professional.

"If you want to look like you don't have hair extensions, (Great Lengths) are the ones you get," Perrego said. "Their quality surpasses any other."

She began her career in 1986 working at a salon with her mom in Central Valley, New York.

She said both her mother and grandmother were hair stylists, so cutting hair came naturally to her. However, she wanted to be able to provide hair color services too and decided to train for her color certification.

"I decided if I want to be a really good stylist, I need to have that dual mastership," she said. "I'm going to need to be able to do both. For me, it's a total package. You have to have the hair cut and the hair color in order for you to be up on the latest styles."

Perrego said continuing to improve her techniques and keeping up with current styles is something she strives to do all the time.

"I think that it's really important in this industry and unfortunately not a lot of people do it," she said.

Perrego lives in Fort Collins with her husband, Mike, and her three kids Zachary, Jonathan and Olivia. In her free time, she enjoys riding her horse and practicing archery with her family. In fact, Perrego and her husband are USA Archery coaches and will lead a junior team competition for Olympic hopefuls in June.
