Windsor residents are already ordering ice cream cakes for Father's Day.
They can now at the new Baskin-Robbins, inside the town's Dunkin' Donuts. Now, mixed in with the smell of brewing coffee is the scent of waffle cones and a cool temperature that can be found in many ice cream shops.
During a soft opening Tuesday morning at the store, 5-year-old Camden Crank eagerly looked through the freezer filled with cakes and tubs of ice cream.
When asked if he was excited about the new ice cream shop, he nodded his head seriously.
Stephanie Collier, a manager at Dunkin' Donuts, said the store chose to add Baskin-Robbins, which is a sister company to Dunkin' Donuts, because it was needed.
"We knew it was something the community really wanted," she said.
Already, Collier said, area residents have been calling daily to ask about the new ice cream shop and pre-order for Father's Day.
The addition of ice cream will also mean changes for the employees at Dunkin' Donuts, from the extended hours to the cooler temperature in the building to help keep the ice cream frozen.
The location is ideal as well, she said, as many residents can walk to the store from their homes.
While ordering their morning coffees and donuts, two families also ordered cakes for a birthday and Father's Day.
"We're excited," Collier said.
