Blushing Bride expands to a new location on Main Street in Windsor while still making brides feel special

Making a future bride feel as though she’s the only one in the world who is getting married is a big reason why the Blushing Bride has been so successful and has recently expanded its business on Main Street in Windsor.
That personal attention attracted Jordan Nielson to the bridal boutique on 529 Main St. in Windsor. Nielson, who lives in Fort Collins and is getting married Friday in Laramie, Wyo., originally went to giant store-chain David’s Bridal in Fort Collins to find her wedding gown. Nielson didn’t like how crowded and crazy that experience was, so she looked for another store and found Blushing Bride.
Blushing Bride, owned by Danielle Banfield and managed by Hannah Hill, is a one-stop location for wedding gowns, bridesmaids attire, invitations and accessories. It’s also a place where a girl can shop for a prom gown or a woman can check out the latest evening wear.
“Blushing Bride helped me pick out dresses, put me in the dresses, and I ended up getting a dress that I didn’t even think I would like,” Nielson said. “Danielle wanted me to try on the style, and I fell in love with the dress. They are there with you throughout the whole process.”
There has been a bridal gown shop on Main Street’s 400 or 500 blocks for nearly 25 years, first the Bridal Factory Outlet and then Blushing Bride, which was located at 424 Main St. for 15 years, before moving into the highly visible location at 529 Main St. on June 2, after outgrowing the older shop. There have been many businesses in that location from a car dealership to the recent Pampered Pelican Boutique.
“We probably outgrew it several years ago and we tossed around the idea for a long time of relocating to Fort Collins or even Loveland,” said Banfield, who lives in Wellington. “We had an offer from Centerra a few years ago to move out there, but it never seemed right and the rents are so astronomical outside of Windsor that to compensate that especially at that time when the economy was so bad would have been really challenging. When this came up it was just finally the perfect time and the perfect space to move.
“I love Windsor. The community has supported us. To see it be able to grow and expand, I love that they’re trying to kind of revive Main Street. I think down the road it will be a destination just like downtown Fort Collins is for shopping and eating and stuff.”
Banfield, 34, has owned Blushing Bride since 2004. She carries three main designer dresses from Alfred Angelo, Maggie Sottero and Allure Bridals with a collection of bridesmaids’ dresses from Jasmine. Hill said gowns range in price from $500 to $2,100 with the average cost of a gown ranging from $1,000 to $1,200. Lace and ball gowns are back in style, she said. Hill said a lot of brides don’t realize that it takes four to six months to order a bridal gown.
“We’ve always been able to have price points for everybody’s budget,” Banfield said. “We draw girls from way out east on the plains and Nebraska, and we get girls as far south as Monte Vista and Pueblo. I think if a girl is in search of a dress she’s going to find it first of all. I think it’s more of an intimate shopping experience. We try to really become a girl’s friend and help her find a dress. It’s about making sure that she looks great and is comfortable with what she wants, not trying to make her fit into what’s popular or maybe what’s trendy at the time.”
Hill said shopping at Blushing Bride is a personalized experience for the bride.
“Once they purchase a gown or come back for their second appointment, they’re not just another bride or another swipe of their credit card,” Hill said. “We actually remember them and remember their favorite gowns. We want to make them feel special and have that special bridal moment, and I think that’s vastly different than a bigger box store or a store that has more than one location. To us it’s not, ‘When are you going to buy your dress?’ it’s, ‘How can we make you feel like a special bride?’ I think that sets us apart a little bit. We definitely give them the small-town feel. It’s very friendly, it’s very welcoming.”
The current location is about 1,350 square feet, compared to less than 900 square feet in the older building. Better lighting, having its own parking lot, an office and dedicated storage room are also added attractions to the Blushing Bride.
“The natural light that comes in here is great. That was one of the things that girls would always complain about because there wasn’t a lot of light in our other space,” Banfield said. “We had one big window and the dressing rooms were so far away from that. You had to walk up to the front door to see what the dress looked like in a natural setting. We’re excited about the new space. We’re happy to move and design a space that we wanted and that reflects more of a modern bride.”
Nielson likes how nothing has fallen through the cracks during her experience with Nielson and Hill.
“I ordered a sash and the place where we got it from said they couldn’t get it in until June 9, and Hannah called almost every day to make sure that it was here and it ended up coming early. She would call and let me know when things were happening,” Nielson said.
Referrals also drive Blushing Bride’s success, and it received one from Nielson because of her positive experience.
“My sister-in-law is getting married in August and she went through Blushing Bride because that’s where I went to,” Nielson said. “Anything that I needed or was worried about, they were always there to make sure everything was good.”
