Board approves changes to outdoor storage regulations for limited industrial properties

The Windsor Town Board approved changes on first reading to the town’s limited-industrial zoning regulations, which town planning officials said would make the code more user-friendly.
Town Associate Planner Josh Olhava said at the board’s meeting on Monday that an amendment to the code was approved in 2012 that limited the amount of outdoor storage allowed as an accessory use in the limited-industrial zone to 65 percent of the total square footage of the property.
He said the language in the code that specified how the 65 percent is calculated has caused confusion for both applicants and town planning staff.
“What this ordinance does is clean up that language and make it more user-friendly,” Olhava said.
To clean up the code, the ordinance removed the following language, referring to 65 percent of the property: “which shall be calculated as the combined total square footage of the footprint of all buildings, landscaping, paved parking and drive areas on the property.”
The town’s planning commission recommended approval of the code changes at the board’s June 18 meeting, Olhava said.
