Brad Deal hired as new Windsor High School head baseball coach pending school board approval Monday

BRAD DEAL

Brad Deal, a former head baseball coach at Fort Collins High School, accepted a job offer to lead the Windsor High School baseball program during the 2012 spring season.

“I think Windsor High School’s got some great athletes,” said Deal in a telephone interview Wednesday night. “They’ve got a good football team and good basketball team. Hopefully, we can get in there and do good things in baseball, too.”

Windsor High School athletic director Mark Kanagy announced the hire Wednesday. It will become official pending approval by the Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District’s board of education on Monday night.

“He’s very a passionate guy about baseball,” Kanagy said. “He’s someone who I think our kids will enjoy working with. He’s got a lot of knowledge in teaching baseball and instructing baseball. He’s been a successful head coach in northern Colorado, and I think he can do that as well here at Windsor.”

Deal, 40, who teachers physical education at Tavelli Elementary School in Fort Collins, replaces Kevin Johnson, who was 21-35 in three years as the Wizards’ head coach.

It was first reported in Windsor Now in August that Johnson resigned as head coach due to wanting to spend more time with his family.

Deal, a former third baseman for the University of Northern Colorado, was born and raised in Fort Collins and was the head coach for the Lambkins for nine years leading them to the Class 5A Final 8 three times. He stepped down in 2010 for personal reasons, but said he missed coaching and was ready to get back into the coaching circle.

“I love baseball. Since I was out I missed coaching, I missed baseball and working with kids,” Deal said. “When the Windsor job came open, it was real exciting so I wanted to get back into it.”

He assisted his dad, longtime coach Bob Deal, at Fort Collins for five years before taking over in 2002.

Deal lives in Timnath and is married with two daughters.
