Celebrating a celebrity: Tozer students pose on the “Red Carpet”

Students at Tozer Primary School got a turn to stand on the red carpet and have their photos taken Friday morning, complete with stars cut out for each student with their names in the center.

Lori Hoffner's second-grade class hosted the red carpet party because a classmate, Nhev Scharrel, plays Agnes in "Despicable Me 3."

"We like to honor our students as an individual and we can celebrate things for each person," Hoffner said.

Hoffner said the class often celebrates birthdays and other milestones in the students' lives.

"It really is a way to bring the kids together," she said.

Scharrel said she had fun filming the movie, but she really was looking forward to the celebration with her class.

"It's really exciting," she said, as her parents, Jason and Sally Scharrel, brought in bags filled with costume pieces for Nhev and her classmates.

Sally Scharrel said Nhev was more excited for her class party than the Despicable Me 3 premiere.

"It's really sweet," she said.

Students quickly helped each other put on tiaras and glittery hair pieces for the girls in the class, and colorful mustaches and "hipster" glasses for the boys in the class, before they lined up to have their photos taken in the hallway.

Sally Scharrel took a photo of each student, with a friend if they preferred, standing on their homemade red carpet, and said she plans to send the photos to Hoffner.

The students then enjoyed cake, ice cream and sparkling apple cider in champagne glasses while they watched Minions from the film dance and sing.
