October 9, 2017
Eaton, Valley, Weld Central and University high schools will be in different brackets for the Class 3A softball regionals Saturday.
No. 2 Eaton (16-3) and No. 8 University (13-6) will have first-round byes, but Eaton will be the only host as University will travel to Meeker in one of two Class 3A regionals where the highest seed is not the host. No. 16 Valley (7-12) and No. 10 Weld Central (12-4) travel to Brush and Rocky Ford, respectively.
If the Vikings defeat No. 17 Cedaredge (8-11) they will face the No. 1 seeded Beetdiggers (16-3).
Eaton will play the winner of the No. 15 Basalt (11-8) and No. 18 Fort Lupton (11-8) matchup, and University will face either No. 9 Meeker (16-3) or No. 24 Sheridan (8-10).
Weld Central will face No. 23 Florence (8-10) to see which team will play against No. 7 Rocky Ford (12-7).
The Class 3A regionals all start at 10 a.m., with the top seed in each with a first-round bye. The winners of the first games will play the top seeds at 12:15 p.m., and the losers of the 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. games will play once more at 2:30 p.m. for a chance to still qualify for state.
