The Weld County Genealogical Society will present a free seminar on "Finding Your Ancestor in the Newspaper," today.

Certified genealogist, lecturer and researcher Carol Darrow will give the presentation at 7 p.m. at the Centennial Park Library, 2227 23rd Ave., Greeley, during the society's monthly meeting.

According to a news release, newspapers offer an enlightening array of articles about people and events such as births, marriages, deaths, family reunions, accidents and court appearances.

Attendees should have the name, town, county and state of an individual they are seeking so she can illustrate how to best search for information from free websites or a newspaper subscription site, according to the release.

Darrow is co-authored the "Genealogist's Guide to Researching Tax Records," and assists in the genealogy departments of the Denver Public Library and the National Archives in Denver.

Additionally, Deb Frazier will present a mini-class, "Genealogy Slump? Change Focus!" from 6:15-6:45 p.m.
