Fire destroys RV, damages car wash in Severance

A recreational vehicle caught fire Monday evening, damaging the 74 Express 325 W. 4th Ave. in Severance. Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Todd Vess said the fire totaled the RV and caused extensive damage to the structure, but said he did not have loss estimates yet.

A recreational vehicle caught fire about 6 p.m. Monday while parked in the car wash of the 74 Express in Severance, 325 W. 4th Ave.

No one was injured in the fire, according to Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Todd Vess.

Vess said the owner of the RV was attempting to jump start the vehicle when he sprayed starter fluid inside the engine and started the fire.

He said the fire totaled the RV and caused damage to the car wash, but he did not have an estimate of damages. He said the RV was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on scene.

An employee at the 74 Express said Tuesday that the business is still open, though the car wash isn't operational right now.
