Flood advisory issued for Poudre River near Greeley

The Poudre River could spill beyond its banks today around Greeley and Windsor, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

The weather service issued a flood advisory for the Poudre River near Greeley, which is in effect until Sunday morning. At 7:30 p.m. Friday, the river was 7.22 feet and expected to remain at least that high. Flood stage is 8 feet, however, at 7 feet minor over-bank flows can occur in low lying areas along the Poudre River between Windsor and Greeley, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect rain today, with a 40 percent chance of precipitation and a high of 61 degrees. The thunderstorms are likely, mainly after 1 p.m. Overnight, the chance of rain remains, with storms expected mostly before 7 p.m.

On Sunday, the sun returns, along with a high of 72 degrees. On Monday, the high will reach 74 under sunny skies, though there is a 10 percent chance of storms in the afternoon, according to the weather service.
