Fort Collins cyclist dies days after vehicle strikes him on road near Severance

Staff reports

The Weld County Coroner and the Weld County Sheriff's Department are investigating the death of a Fort Collins man who was struck by a vehicle last week while he was riding his bike in Severance.

At about 9 p.m. Wednesday night, Richard Alley, 53, of Fort Collins was riding his bicycle on Weld County Road 74. At a point near WCR 23 in Severance, Alley's bicycle was struck by a vehicle.

Alley suffered serious bodily injury Wednesday and went to The Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland where he received treatment until his death Friday.

No charges will be filed after the death, according to a Weld Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Due to the circumstances, no arrest was made, either because the driver of the vehicle was not found at fault or because the incident was deemed an accident, the spokesman said.
