Navarro

State Rep. Clarice Navarro has openly supported Donald Trump since Day 1 of his nomination, and since then, she has received a lot of pushback.

Navarro, a Pueblo Republican, is the only GOP Latina woman who serves in the Colorado House, and she also sits on Trump's National Hispanic Advisory Board in Colorado.

"I've taken some hits, but I do it because it's the right thing to do," she said. "(Trump) sits down with us and asks, 'How can I make a difference?'"

A room full of conservative voices in the state — including Colorado Republican Chairman Steve House and Greeley Republican Sen. John Cook — met Friday evening to hold a fundraiser for Navarro's campaign at Val Orr's estate in Greeley, who helped host the event. Navarro is running for her third term in House District 47.

They discussed topics from law enforcement issues to the economy to close race polls, and of course, Trump himself.

"I'm not always going to agree 100 percent with any candidate," Navarro said. "To come together on common issues that we can find common ground, that's what I base my support on."

House shared the same sentiments. He admitted that Trump was not initially his first choice, but after meeting and speaking with Trump, his mind was changed.

"He is ahead of all of us. He is a good listener and treats everyone fairly," House said. "I had my fears about him, but not anymore."

Navarro shared a story on how Trump made time for her two daughters, who are 14 and 9 years old, to give them autographs and chat with them after a speech. The Secret Service was trying to rush him to another priority, Navarro said, and she recalled Trump telling them to wait until after he was done speaking with the girls.

After he made time to make her daughters feel important and special, she was sold.

"He was truly genuine," she said.
