GOOD FOR YOU: Denver International Beer Competition awards High Hops Brewery four gold, two silver medals
May 3, 2014
Windsor’s High Hops Brewery took home four gold and two silver medals from the 2014 Denver International Beer Competition, which was held April 12 and 13 in Broomfield.
Owner Pat Weakland said he was thrilled about the awards.
“When we enter these awards as a small brewery, with 250 to 300 breweries that enter these things, we would have been just tickled to death if we won one bronze,” Weakland said. “We won four gold medals and two silver, and we’re overwhelmed.”
High Hops gold medal winning beers included: The Noble One, a Belgian quad; The Foot Warmer, an English barleywine; Windsor’s Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale and The Weize One, an American Style Hefeweizen.
High Hops silver medal beers were: A Devilishly Delicious Milk Stout, The Dark One and The Witty One.
The competition was held at the Omni Interlocken Resort and received entries from brewers in more than 20 states and five countries. A total of 108 medals in 41 categories were awarded.
Gold medal winning beers will be showcased at Pairsine Chefs Food and Beer Competition on June 11 at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield.
High Hops opened its hop farm in Windsor in 2007 and later opened its brewery in 2012.
“It’s been a serious adventure,” Weakland said.
High Hops Brewery is located at 6461 Colo. 392.
