A massive Good For You goes out to the Windsor High School student council and the student body and staff for their participation in Manuel's Relay on Jan. 18.

The student council paid tribute to former Windsor student Luis Manuel Reyes Mon, who died Jan. 18, 2012, at the age of 17 in a car crash on Colo. 257 when he was driving to school.

The student council raised money by selling "Live life with a kick" T-shirts created by Manuel's close friend, Alejandro Mendoza. The event was the brainchild of student council member Taryn Melendez, a junior.

The student council also sold raffle tickets with prizes donated by various Windsor businesses. The money raised will be used for a scholarship in Manuel's name. The student council also purchased a bench with a name plate honoring Manuel that sits outside the weight room, just off the track. Candles were placed around the track after school and students walked around it. Manuel's family was also at the event. During school hours, students and staff took a lap around the track to honor Manuel.

Student council adviser Karen Aschliman, who also teaches English at the high school, said last week the final figure of money raised for the scholarship is still being counted.
