Last of closed roads opened Wednesday as Windsor back to normal following flood

It only took a matter of days until the flood waters from the Poudre River receded and the roads throughout Windsor reopened.

Unlike many of the flooded areas in Colorado, everything was back to normal in Windsor by 6 a.m. Wednesday when town officials reopened 7th Street at Eastman Park to traffic.

Terry Walker, director of public works for the Town of Windsor, said his crew swept off the dirt and debris before the roads at 7th Street, Weld County Road 13 and along Colo. 257 were reopened.

"What we have to do now is we're out repairing the shoulders on the road where the water kind of eroded away the shoulders," said Walker on Thursday. "All of the debris that was left from the flooding on the roads we got taken care of before we opened the roads."

Walker said the two gravel pits on the west side of town along Weld 13 saved the water from going through and causing more damage.

"If those two pits hadn't been there, that water would have gone downstream, and we would have had more damage. They saved our bacon," Walker said.

Walker said Windsor has opened its arms to other neighboring communities.

"We're very blessed. We're just kind of holding back if any of the surrounding communities may need some help," Walker said. "We'll see what they need, and see if we can help them out at all. Kelly (Arnold), the town manager, has told Milliken and Johnstown and Kersey and all of them that if they need our help to please let us know. Everybody offered help to us during the (2008) tornado, so we're trying to repay that favor."

Parks, recreation and culture director Melissa Chew said the town continues to update its website at As of Friday morning, the town website on the flood included:
