Memorial Day ceremony to honor veterans

The Town of Windsor is pleased to announce the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Lakeview Cemetery.

The American Legion Post will be hosting this ceremony to honor veterans who have been laid to rest in Windsor. The Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Monday.

The event will include a flag ceremony, comments and the traditional placement of the memorial wreath by the American Legion. This year, the Legion welcomes guest speaker retired Army Special Forces Major Diggs Brown. Mayor John Vazquez will also be a participant in the ceremony.

The American Legion will offer breakfast on Memorial Day prior to the ceremony. From 7-9 a.m., the American Legion, located at 624 Ash St. in Windsor, will offer a free breakfast to all veterans and $5 plates for non-veterans.

After the ceremony, the public is invited to the American Legion Post for a barbecue including hamburgers and hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw and chips. The cost per plate is $6. For more information, please contact the American Legion at (970) 686-9966.

In preparation for Memorial Day at Lakeview Cemetery, the Town of Windsor takes this opportunity to remind the public of the following regulations for lot or burial space decorations at Lakeview Cemetery. Regulations are posted at the cemetery and online at

» The placement of any perennial, shrub, evergreen, tree or rose is prohibited except with approval of the cemetery technician. The town reserves the right to remove any overgrown or unapproved plantings.

» Sprays and wreaths made from fresh-cut flowers will be allowed, but they will be removed within two weeks or, in the cemetery technician's opinion, when they become unsightly or detrimental.

» Artificial sprays and wreaths will be allowed from May 1-June 20 and from Dec. 1-March 1. The cemetery technician shall remove all artificial sprays and wreaths when they become unsightly.

» The town is not liable for lots, misplaced or broken flower vases, or for damage done by the elements, thieves, vandals or by causes beyond its control. The town reserves the right to regulate the method of decorating lots and the right to remove any decoration so that a uniform beauty may be maintained.
