Memorial Day services, programs in Weld County

This weekend, veterans' organizations across Weld County will host opportunities to pay respects to those who died serving in the U.S. armed forces. Here's a list of Memorial Day services and programs throughout Weld:

» 6 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 28th St. Stoddard Funeral Home and Sunset Memorial Gardens will begin a weekend of Memorial Day events with a children's program to honor lives taken too soon. The program will include a guest speaker and a balloon release.

» 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 28th St. Regional director for U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, Maria Secrest will be a guest speaker in this event to honor Weld County veterans.

» 9 a.m. Monday at Linn Grove Cemetery, 1700 Cedar Ave. Linn Grove Cemetery, in conjunction with Weld County military organizations, will honor veterans with a formal ceremony. Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Jeff Sloan will be a guest speaker. Bob Bernd will emcee, and Chad Young will help provide patriotic music.

» All day Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 28th St. Donated veteran flags will be displayed throughout the cemetery as an Avenue of Flags.

» About 11 a.m.-noon, Monday, following the ceremony at Linn Grove Cemetery, there will be a potluck luncheon at VFW Post No. 2121, 2514 7th Ave.

» 11 a.m. Monday at the Evans Cemetery, located at U.S. 34 and 11th Avenue in Evans. VFW Post No. 6624 will host this program honoring those who have served. Air Force Master Sgt. James Whitlow will be a guest speaker. Troop 50 and Cub Scout Pack 40 will assist in the program.

» 7-9 a.m. Monday at American Legion Post 109, 624 Ash St. in Windsor. The American Legion Post will provide a free breakfast for veterans. Non-veterans also can get breakfast for $5 per plate.

» 10 a.m. Monday at Lakeview Cemetery, 32815 Colo. 257 in Windsor. The town of Windsor and the American Legion Post No. 109 will hold a ceremony to honor veterans laid to rest in Windsor. Mayor Kristie Melendez, Colorado Rep. Perry Buck, R-Windsor, and Maria Secrest, a representative for U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, all will be speakers at the ceremony.

» 11 a.m. Monday at American Legion Post No. 180, 595 Railroad Ave., in Keenesburg. Col. Stan Cass of the Northern Colorado Honor Flight will be a guest speaker at this event. Lunch will be provided by the American Legion Auxiliary.

» 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Eaton cemetery, located at Collins Street and Maple Avenue in Eaton. The American Legion in Eaton will host a service. The service is timed so people also can attend the 11:30 service at the Ault cemetery.

» 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Ault cemetery, off North 3rd Avenue in Ault. Following the service, the Timnath Goal Diggers 4-H Club will provide a free chili lunch at the VFW in Ault.
