The Windsor Police Department has arrested nine juveniles and one adult in connection with a rash of vehicle break-ins that occurred in May and June.

Administrative Lt. Richard Higuera said he didn't know the cash value for the items stolen, but said police recovered more than 70 items of stolen property. He said police received reports of at least 19 vehicles that had been illegally entered, the majority of which he said were unlocked.

The police's investigation resulted in the arrests of nine Windsor-area juveniles and one adult, who are charged with criminal trespass and theft. The adult, 18-year-old Ashton Gjerstad was booked July 13 into Weld County Jail and charged with felony first-degree criminal trespass and misdemeanor theft.

Charges are pending on one other juvenile, Higuera said.

Police recovered numerous stolen items during the investigation and are asking anyone who had their car broken into during May or June, but did not file a report, to please contact investigations at (970) 686-7433. Police also would like to remind town residents to lock their car doors, keep valuables out of sight, close their garage doors at night and report any suspicious activity while it is happening.
