Re-4 School District conducting free developmental screenings for children under 5

The Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District will conduct two free developmental screenings for children 1 month to 5 years old who are not yet attending kindergarten.

According to a news release from the school district, the purpose of the screening is to identify children who may be in need of special education services and/or to provide information regarding early childhood development. A screening is required if a parent/guardian is interested in having their child participate in the Colorado Preschool Program. For more information regarding the Colorado Preschool Program, log onto the preschool website at http://www.weldre4.k12.co.us.

The screenings are two-part and include vision/hearing testing and a developmental screening. The first set of screenings are being held in January. The vision/hearing was held Jan. 13. The developmental screening will be held Jan. 27.

The second set of screenings will be held in February and March with vision/hearing Feb. 10, and developmental screenings March 3.

A vision/hearing screening is required prior to the developmental screening. Parents/guardians interested in scheduling an appointment, or for further information, may contact Carla Jacobsen at (970) 686-8017.

These screenings are not mandatory to register for tuition preschool and do not enroll a child in the tuition preschool program.
