Re-4 School District to hold community safety forum Jan. 28
January 18, 2013
Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District superintendent Karen Trusler said a community safety forum will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Windsor High School fireside room, 1100 Main St., to discuss current safety and security precautions, as well as hear suggestions on how to increase security and safety throughout the school district.
“Personally, I think we need to come together as a community to talk about it, talk about prevention and protection strategies, and get community input on that,” Trusler said. “It’s a critical time to get together as a community to see what the community feels on how we can make sure that safety and security are up front for our kids, from preschool to high school.”
Trusler said all community members are invited.
“We want to open up and listen to questions and suggestions,” Trusler said. “I have had a father call and say, ‘What about if we had an expanded Watch D.O.G.S. program where we have more parents’ visibility, particularly at middle school and high school?’ That’s something we’ll discuss as well. Just the appearance of more adults outside and inside gives a sense of peace and presence to the students. Safety will continue to be a high priority in our community as our children are what are most precious.”
Trusler said the district continues to review and revise safety precautions for all the schools making sure that:
n Building access is limited when possible.
n Front entrance is monitored by a staff member during school hours.
n Sign-in procedures are required at each building for all visitors.
n Security cameras are in place at Windsor High School.
n The district works closely with law enforcement.
n Building principals have discussed and reviewed safety precautions and have plans in place.
