Sixty-one kids compete in Denver Nuggets Basketball Skills Challenge

Eight kids competed and won in the local round of the Denver Nuggets Basketball Skills Challenge on Jan. 18 at the Windsor Community Recreation Center, sending them on to the sectional competition in February.

A total of 61 kids competed in the event and were judged on their basketball fundamentals, like dribbling, passing and shooting.

The winners, by age group, were:

» Noah Foth of Windsor (boys ages 7 and 8).

» Luke Ruby of Fort Collins (boys ages 9 and 10).

» Benjamin Pepin of Windsor (boys ages 11 and 12).

» Christian Fagerlin of Fort Collins (boys ages 13 and 14).

» Ashley Launer of Windsor (girls ages 7 and 8).

» Alexis Backhaus of Windsor (girls ages 9 and 10).

» Caitlin Tator of Windsor (girls ages 11 and 12).

» Shelbie Jones of Windsor (girls ages 13 and 14).

The eight winners will move on to the sectional competition Feb. 23 in Windsor. Winners of the sectional will compete at the state competition, which will be held in conjunction with the April 12 Nuggets game against the Utah Jazz.

The Town of Windsor Parks, Recreation and Culture Department hosted the event.
