UPDATE: Southbound lanes of I-25 now open; roadwork to follow tonight
March 30, 2017
UPDATE, 1:45 p.m.: All southbound lanes are open on Interstate 25 between the Windsor exit and Crossroads Boulevard, although the speed limit has been reduced to 25 mph.
Jared Fiel, spokesman for the Colorado Department of Transportation, confirmed the lanes opened within the last hour. He added construction will begin about 7 p.m. tonight on the temporary bridge at the Crossroads Boulevard exit. At that point, he said, all traffic will be diverted to the on and off ramps from the highway.
He added the Colorado Department of Transportation expects to have the bridge repaired by tomorrow morning.
UPDATE: Southbound traffic on Interstate 25 is down to one lane between the Windsor exit and Crossroads, as of 11:45 a.m.
Pavement issues on a temporary bridge in the crossroads area about 7 a.m. caused heavy traffic that may have contributed to a 9 a.m. crash near the Windsor exit at mile marker 262, said Jared Fiel, spokesman for the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Crews set up the temporary bridge at Crossroads to handle southbound traffic while they expanded the permanent bridge. Fiel said the temporary bridge had multiple potholes though, and the pavement contributed to a great deal of traffic in the area this morning.
He was not able to confirm that traffic caused the crash further north, but he did say one slow, steady stream of traffic was making its way through the highway's single open southbound lane.
"Obviously things are going slow," he said.
He added the Colorado Department of Transportation plans to close the temporary bridge tonight to fix the pavement issue. He said the department expects the problems to be fixed in the morning.
Southbound Interstate 25 is closed at the Windsor exit due to a crash, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation's website.
The closure, which the website states began at 9:05 a.m., is at mile marker 262, where the interstate connects with Colo. 392.
