Streamlined, user-friendly oil info now available
October 26, 2012
Accessing oil and gas information in Windsor just became a whole lot easier.
After months of public input and criticism about confusing charts, endless paper trails and baffling agency hoops, residents can now learn where all oil and gas wells are located within Windsor town limits, what exactly is included in site plans and which chemicals are being used for controversial hydraulic fracturing — fracking — operations.
The geographic information system (GIS) pools together local, state and federal forms and data, providing everyone with a one-stop oil information database rather than sifting through other informational sites.
It is available at http://gis.windsorgov.com/communitydevelopment.
"This is in direct response to a lot of the concerns we've heard from the citizens," said Mayor Pro-Tem Kristie Melendez, citing the community-wide demand for transparency on the issue during recent years. "This is very well done."
Staff will update the site as more information becomes available and more permits are issued. Additional information about changes to air quality testing may be added in the future.
