Students step up to boost school wellness efforts

Next week, schools across Northern Colorado will participate in walkathon fundraisers sponsored by UCHealth's Healthy Kids Club.

Between last week and next, 32 schools in the area will be stepping up to support the wellness efforts at their schools, according to a news release from UC Health. Windsor Charter Academy held their walkathon Friday, and four schools in Windsor and Severance will hold theirs Oct. 6.

All participants are given T-shirts, and a portion of the walkathon proceeds are designated to fund school wellness initiatives.

According to the release, in the 2015/16 school year, Healthy Kids Club sponsored 50 walkathons. Schools raised over $490,000 with more than $90,000 going back to school wellness efforts.
