Suspected Hells Angels member charged with multiple crimes after police say he shot at Milliken police car during chase

What’s next

John Lockhart, 36 — accused of shooting at a police officer, eluding police after he shot at an SUV and a police car — is next scheduled to appear in court 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A suspected Hells Angels member who police say fired a gun at a police car during a chase faces multiple criminal charges in connection with a string of incidents last week.

John Lockhart, 36, of Eaton, is charged with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of vehicular eluding and the illegal discharge of a firearm. He was arrested Wednesday by the Greeley SWAT team after police searched for days to find him.

According to an affidavit for his arrest, police first began looking for Lockhart just after midnight June 11, when they believe he fired a gun through the window of a passing SUV from a motorcycle. He was one of two people on the motorcycle, police believe, and he eluded them in Greeley.

About an hour later, police spotted a similar motorcycle in Milliken ridden by two people. When Milliken officers tried to pull over the motorcycle, the riders sped off. During the chase, the affidavit stated, officers heard an explosion and later pulled a spent shell casing from the patrol car's front grill.

Lockhart evaded officers yet again last Tuesday night in Greeley, when he fled at more than 100 mph, according to the report.

Officers used surveillance footage from nearby businesses to identify Lockhart. In the footage, according to the report, detectives were able to see Lockhart wore colors and symbols affiliated with the Hells Angels.

According to the affidavit, police last Wednesday night also arrested Amber Eaton, 33, who they believe was the motorcycle's passenger during the shootings and the pursuits. Eaton told officers Lockhart fired at the SUV on June 11, the report stated. Lockhart confirmed that account and said he fired up to seven rounds at the SUV, according to the report.

The two were booked into the Weld County jail. Lockhart is being held on $1 million dollar bond.
