Tributes for Feb. 26

William Robert “Garland Lee” Stewart

William Robert "Garland Lee" Stewart passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on Feb. 21, 2017 in Greeley. Garland was born April 29, 1935, in Windsor. He spent his boyhood working on the family strawberry farm in Stillwell, Okla. He returned to Windsor at the age of 15 and met the love of his life at age 17. He married Betty "Jo" Johanna Noreen on June 26, 1953 in Windsor. Together they raised their children: Allen Lee (Elise) Jason, James, Kathleen "Kathy" Faye (Jeff) Hinckle, Daniel, Bryan, David Wayne (Susan) Abigail, Amelia, Curtis Alan (Tara) Joshua, Johannah, Adam and Vickie Sue (Jeremy) Beaver, Tyler. He was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren.

He worked with his hands his whole life, whether farming, working at the sugar beet factory as a teen in Windsor, working at Manweiler Hardware or working at Stewart Plumbing, Heating and Wiring with his brother. He spent his career as a Master Plumber and Electrician most recently as Chief Mechanical, Plumbing, Heating, and Electrical Inspector for Weld County until his retirement in 1988.

His true passion was exploring the mountains on his motorcycle, camping, fishing, hunting and trap shooting. He loved the details of life and sharing them with his natural talent for storytelling and conversation with any willing listener. He truly never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lucille Poteet Stewart; brothers, James "JR" and George; and his infant son, Douglas Eugene.

He is survived by his sisters, Geneva Erhdahl and Illa Elsner; and brother, Joe Stewart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2017, at Timberline Church, 360 Crossroads Blvd. in Windsor.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation in Garland's name.
