Windsor All Stars take home trophies from national championship
March 1, 2014
The Windsor All-Star Cheerleading team, part of the Windsor Gymnastics Academy, had two teams take first place and one team take second place in the American Legacy Cheer and Dance National Championships on Feb. 8 and 9 at the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland.
The group's youth team took second place in the competition, while the group's junior and senior squads each placed first. The cheer team includes more than 50 girls between the ages of 5 and 18, coach Brodie Scubia said.
"They did a great job," Scubia said. "They did a lot preparation and there were a lot of teams at the event."
Scubia said the competition is one of the biggest ones for the group and came during a busy month when the team is scheduled to compete in three competitions.
"The competitions this month are almost all back-to-back," Scubia said.
He said the girls work hard, practicing for two hours, two days each week, leading up to a competition. The team competes in five to eight competitions each year, depending on which group they are in, he said.
Now, the All-Stars' junior and senior teams are preparing for the Athletic Championships national competition next month in San Antonio, Scubia said.
Anyone interested in joining the Windsor All-Star Cheerleading Team is encouraged to come and watch practice, Scubia said. The team isn't curretly taking new members for this season since it's almost finished, but kids can prepare for the beginning of next season in May, he said.
