Windsor Art & Heritage Center to host World War II veteran book talk with local author

Staff reports

The Windsor Art & Heritage Center will host local author Brad Hoopes for a discussion of his compilation of World War II memoirs, "Reflections of Our Gentle Warriors," from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at 116 5th Street.

Hoopes' passion for preserving history led him to travel northern Colorado, interviewing more than 500 veterans. In their 80s and 90s, those veterans shared their first-hand account of enduring the Great Depression only to be thrown into the turmoil of World War II. These men and women then returned home from war only to strengthen our nation and fortify its position as a world leader.

In the book, Hoopes focuses on 70 stories from his many interviews, including six from Windsor residents. Through these oral histories, Hoopes provides a fresh perspective on those individuals dubbed "the greatest generation."

"Reflections of Our Gentle Warriors" will be available for purchase and signing after the event.
