Windsor Charter Academy raised $10,000 for the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation with its recent Read-a-thon.

The school hosted the fundraiser to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday March 2, and kindergarten through fifth-grade students brought their favorite stuffed animals and pillows to school for a day of reading, according to a news release from the school.

Students listened to a number of community members read to them throughout the morning, including a librarian, Windsor police officers, Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue firefighters and a member of the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation.

Students also took an hour out of their day to read. Over the course of the week, the students read for more than 1,200 hours, according to the release.

Along with tracking their reading, charter academy students collected donations from family and friends.

Students recently traveled to Children's Hospital Colorado to present the check to foundation and hospital staff. While they were there, students also completed service projects, including making cards and blankets for patients and making coloring packets for siblings, according to the release.
