Windsor foster parents recognized for outstanding care

Staff reports

On Saturday, May 16, four Colorado families were recognized for National Foster Care Month at the Governor's Mansion. These families were commemorated for providing a safe home for children while working toward family reunification. Among the four families are Kurt and Jennifer Walker of Windsor.

The families were recognized by Reggie Bicha, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS).

The Walkers both work as natal intensive nurses and specialize their foster home to accommodate for kids with special medical needs. The Walkers have been foster parents for eight years.

In a press release, Bicha stated just how important these foster families are to the community.

"This is one of my favorite days of the year," said Bicha. "Today, we honor Colorado's 'Everyday Heroes' who open their hearts and homes to our most vulnerable children. Nearly 2,000 foster families have graciously become certified to care for Colorado's children. It is an honor and a privilege to recognize some of our very best."
