Online consumer advocacy site NerdWallet has named Windsor as the fifth best place for homeownership in Colorado.
In determining its rankings, NerdWallet used data from the U.S. Census Bureau and looked at three factors: home availability, affordability and the area’s growth.
U.S. Census Bureau data shows Windsor’s population grew by 7.7 percent between 2010 and 2012. Windsor’s median home value came in at $258,000, with a median monthly household income of $6,662, and the homeownership rate in the town is 79.1 percent.
Evaluators also noted Windsor’s arts community and sugar beet industry history.
Evaluators broke down their rankings using the following data:
» Homeownership rate made up one-third of an area’s total score.
» Selected monthly owner costs as a percentage of median household income made up 16.7 percent of the total score, with a lower percentage earning a higher score.
» Median home value made up 16.7 percent of the total score, with a lower value earning a higher score.
» Population change from 2010 to 2012 made up 33.3 percent of the total score, with a higher percent change earning a higher score.
Fifty-seven Colorado cities with more than 10,000 residents were included in NerdWallet’s analysis, however, evaluators excluded communities with higher than average crime.
