The Windsor Wizards U12 baseball team won its first AAA classification championship in Colorado Springs on May 20, according to the team's coach, Alejandro Tovar.

"It was not an easy road to the title but their resiliency and hard work eventually paid off," he said in an email.

The Wizards, Tovar said, lost the first game 16-1, but then "rebounded nicely" and won the next four games in a row.

"Sunday's single elimination day was a roller coaster ride," Tovar said in the email.

Although the semi-final game was a "tough battle," Tovar said the team won 13-12, even after a pitcher had to be removed from the game after he was hit in the arm.

"He shook it off and ended up driving in the winning run," Tovar said in the email. "That is mental and physical toughness from that young man."

The No. 2 ranked Wizards took an early 3-0 lead against the No. 1 Grand Junction team, Tovar said, but the Grand Junction team then scored 10 runs in one inning.

"Most teams fold after an inning like that, (but) not these feisty Wizards," said Tovar in the email.

The Wizards won the game 19-18.
