Area rodeos partner to announce first Rodeo 34 Award
October 11, 2017
The Greeley Stampede, Rooftop Rodeo Estes and Larimer County Fair & PRCA Rodeo partnered to recognize the contestant who earned the most points in the combined rodeo series.
The recipient of the first Rodeo 34 Award is barrel racer Sydni Blanchard of New Mexico, who earned a total of 23.5 points.
The alliance is named after the highway that connects the three rodeos. Members from the rodeo committees will meet to share information, cross-promote and continue building partnership, according to a release from Rodeo 34.
The top 10 contestants of each rodeo event of the combined series were awarded points determined by placing. Contestants were required to compete in all three rodeos to qualify.
Blanchard will be recognized Oct. 28 at the Mountain States Circuit Finals in Loveland. She will receive a $3,000 gas and grocery gift card, as well as a championship pure beaver custom cowboy hat, courtesy of Greeley Hat Works.
Other top contestants from the series include saddle bronc rider Brody Cress, who placed second with 20.5 points, and steer wrestler Billy Bugenig, who placed third with 20 points.
