Part of the money Windsor High School would receive from bond initiatives 3B and 3C would go toward building a greenhouse outside the agriculture building.

Shani McBride is a member of the greenhouse board, and her daughter, Brianna is president of the Windsor Future Farmers of America.

The initiative includes a $104.8 million bond which, in addition to providing funds for a second high school in Severance, would provide $30 million repairs and innovations at Windsor High School.

The FFA has raised about $77,000 through private fund raising, and would receive $84,000 to complete the project.

There are about 400 students involved in the Windsor FFA, one of the largest memberships in the state. Currently, the agriculture program uses a make-shift canvas green house inside the workshop for beginning agriculture classes.

"We grow small potted peppers and plants in the intro classes, but we are limited to small plants with the current set up," said Agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor Jarrod Bessire.

Bessire estimates that the outdoor greenhouse would allow the department to add more horticulture classes to the curriculum, and would even give students the opportunity to grow vegetables and plants to sell.

Brianna said that the FFA and the agriculture program at Windsor High School has taught her valuable career skills like public speaking and given her industry experience.

"I've grown so much," she said Wednesday. "I've learned networking skills, public speaking skills and so much about the industry. It's part of your life, not just a class."

Next week, Brianna will compete at the FFA nationals in Indianapolis in the Dairy products and milk quality category. Students from the Windsor FFA also will be competing in the categories of job interviewing, dairy handling and American degree.
