Chemical engineer Gbenga Ajiboye is Democratic nominee for Colorado House District 48

Weld County resident Gbenga Ajiboye is the Democratic nominee for the Colorado House District 48 race, recently announcing his candidacy and earning the Weld County Democratic Party nomination Saturday.

Ajiboye, 40, immigrated to the United States with his wife, Oluwakemi Ajiboye, from Nigeria, and they have lived in District 48 for the past five years.

A chemical engineer, Ajiboye in his announcement said he's highly motivated and dependable, and has domestic and international experience with leading oilfield service companies, the alternative energy industry and United States regulatory agencies.

"Gbenga is a problem-solver with keen attention to detail, an effective mentor and trainer with a focus on safety," according to his announcement.

Ajiboye said he's interested in healthcare, immigration, education, energy, the economy, environment and gun control.

"Gbenga has decided to run for the Colorado House District 48 (seat) because he believes that a person that represents the public must understand the challenges and issues that the masses face," according to the release.

Ajiboye will face Steve Humphrey, R-Greeley, an incumbent who earned the Weld County GOP nomination Saturday and is seeking re-election for the third time.

Ajiboye has a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from Lagos State University in Nigeria, and he has two graduate degrees, from Prairie View A&M University in Texas and The University of Iowa, Iowa City, according to the release.

Ajiboye has been married eight years, and has three children. The family attends Resurrection Fellowship Church in Loveland.
