The Howard and Marjory Smith Trust gifted $1.3 million to the Community Foundation Serving Greeley and Weld County.
Held at the Guaranty Bank and Trust Company, the trust was established for Howard and Marjory's son Gordon, who recently passed away. The gift will expand the Community Foundation's Impact Fund, according to a release from the nonprofit.
"The Smiths left instructions that these funds be used for purposes determined by the Board of Directors," said Lucie Wisehart, chairwoman on the foundation's board. "This gives increased discretion to the Foundation to respond to local needs as the community flexes and changes."
Howard and Marjory Smith also previously established the Howard E. Smith Family Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation. That fund locally supports scholarships and collaboration grants.
