Jerry Sonnenberg to serve as agriculture committee chairman; John Cooke, Vicki Marble earn vice chair postings

State senators who represent Weld County will serve on a host of committees during next year's legislative session, including the judiciary and agriculture committees, where they will serve in leadership roles.
Colorado Senate Republicans announced the committee assignments Wednesday in a news release.
"Our goal when making assignments was to diversify rather than concentrate power, which gets more of our members involved in the leadership of committees and strategic planning on the issues they handle," said new Senate Majority Leader Chris Holbert in the release. "It isn't our goal to run a top-town kind of operation, but to ensure that committee members have a lot of say in what bills they want to sponsor and consider."
The assignments for senators who represent Weld are:
» John Cooke, R-Greeley: Judiciary (vice chairman); Transportation (vice chairman); Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy; Committee on Legal Services.
» Vicki Marble, R-Fort Collins: State, Veterans and Military Affairs (vice chairwoman); Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy; Legislative Council.

» Jerry Sonnenberg, R-Sterling: State, Veterans and Military Affairs; Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy (chairman); Appropriations; Legislative Council; Legislative Audit.
There are no Democratic senators who represent Weld. Senate Democrats have not released committee assignments for next year's session. Neither have House Democrats, who hold the majority in that chamber.
