LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Grandchildren missed out on not watching president
September 12, 2009
As a grandparent, I would have loved for my two grandsons in the Windsor School District to have been able to watch President Obama’s speech with their classmates and teachers and at the same time as other students around the United States.
What a great opportunity it would have been for a discussion about the importance of education! But, NO, as I understand it, it was not shown on Tuesday in the Windsor schools.
Could someone please tell me why it is wrong for our children to watch our duly elected president of the United States urge them to work hard and stay in school?
I believe the message the students received from the school district it that it’s OK not to listen to our leaders, starting with the president of the United States. Does that mean it’s OK to not listen to our teachers, parents, coaches, doctors, counselors and other leaders?
Where did the respect go that we used to have for our president?
