Steve Moreno announces run for re-election to at-large seat on Board of Weld County Commissioners
January 7, 2018
Board of Weld County Commissioners Chairman Steve Moreno announced Saturday his intention to run for re-election to his at-large seat.
Moreno has served as commissioner since January 2015 and was elected unanimously to serve as chairman of the board for 2018.
Prior to serving as commissioner, Moreno served 12 years as the elected Weld County Clerk and Recorder after working in the office for 17 ½ years.
Moreno said in a statement he is running for re-election because of his years of experience in county government and the confidence voters continue to place in him.
"It has been an honor to serve Weld County citizens," Moreno said in the statement. "I am very proud and humbled by the opportunity to represent the citizens of Weld County."
In the past three years as a member of the board, Moreno reports he worked to maintain the county's financial condition, which includes no debt or sales tax, a strong cash reserve and one of the lowest mill levies among Colorado counties. He said he will continue to work with all departments and elected officials "to provide the best government services to the citizens of Weld County." He also plans to continue to foster relationships with agencies and municipalities within Weld.

"One of my next goals, as our county population continues to increase, will be to work with others on continuing to improve the county road infrastructure and transportation overall in our region," Moreno said in the release.
Only one other candidate has announced intentions to run for Moreno's seat. Local environmental activist Carl Erickson announced his bid for the seat in December.
