Weld Food Bank seeking nearly 5,000 turkeys for families in need this year

The Weld Food Bank's partner agencies have requested 4,862 turkeys for the holidays this year for families in need in Weld County.
That represents nearly 10 percent more requests than last year.
Additionally, the food bank's partner agencies have requested 5,347 potatoes, 6,331 cranberries, 10,343 green beans, 8,370 mushroom soups and 7,881 boxes of stuffing to make holiday food baskets or hot meals for the people they serve. Currently, the food bank has no turkeys on hand, according to a news release issued Wednesday from the Food Bank.
Ways to donate turkeys:
» They can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Weld Food Bank warehouse, 1108 H Street in Greeley.
» Wing Shack is collecting turkeys for the food bank at its Garden City, West Greeley and Windsor locations. Anyone who donates a turkey at one of those three locations will receive 5 free wings. Wing Shack will also make a $5 donation per turkey to Weld Food Bank.

The food bank will hold its annual Turkey Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 19 at select locations. The participating stores are: Walmart, 920 47th Ave. in Greeley; Sam's Club, 3247 S. 23rd Ave. in Evans; and both Safeway locations in Greeley, as well as King Soopers in Windsor and Firestone. Donations also can be made at the food bank warehouse on that day.
