A Windsor Cub Scout pack will begin allowing girls to join the pack along with boys.

Officials from Windsor Pack 199 announced the decision Friday in a news release, noting the pack is the first in Windsor to allow co-ed registration.

"Immediately, any eligible youth in kindergarten through fourth grade may register to join the pack," the release stated.

The pack will hold a Welcome Night event at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Windsor Charter Academy, 680 Academy Court in Windsor.

Registrations must be completed by March 15. After March 15, youth will go on a waiting list to register in the fall.

In 2017, the Boy Scouts of America leaders chose begin admitting girls.

"We believe it is critical to evolve how our programs meet the needs of families interested in positive and lifelong experiences for their children. We strive to bring what our organization does best — developing character and leadership for young people — to as many families and youth as possible as we help shape the next generation of leaders," Boy Scouts Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh said in the news release.

Pack 199 is part of the Boy Scouts of America Early Adopter program, which allows selected packs to begin accepting girls early in 2018. Other Cub Scout packs will follow in late 2018.
