Hazardous materials, construction waste, household items and other items sit at the Windsor Recycling Center, 801 Diamond Valley Drive. They were illicitly dumped over the weekend, causing the site to be closed for cleanup this week, according ot the town of Windsor.

The Windsor Recycling Center has been temporarily closed for clean-up after illicit dumping at the site.

Staff is currently working to clean the hazardous materials, construction waste, household items and other items dumped at the site over the past weekend, according to the town of Windsor.

Kelly Houghteling, assistant to the town manager for Windsor, said although the site is typically always open during daylight hours for residents to use, the large amounts of items left at the site, some of which she said could be hazardous to residents' health, is making staff reconsider.

Town officials may change the site's hours or add staff to avoid a similar situation from happening again, she said, but no decisions have yet been made.
